Alanna Gaylord's Art Education Portfolio

            In this section I have demonstrated my understanding of important content in education from the perspective of an art educator. These topics have been addressed in the required professional courses, as well as experienced in five practica and a student teaching internship. The following topics included: Accommodations for Students with Special Needs and English Language Learners; Diversity and Multiculturalism in the Curriculum; Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS); Aesthetics and Understanding the Art Word; Integrating the Arts: Literacy; The National Core Arts Standards; InTASC Core Teaching Standards; Assessment and Critique Strategies for Different Age Groups; PBIS and the Responsive Classroom (positive classroom management strategies); Bully and Other Disruptive Behavior; Discipline Based Art Education; The Enduring Idea; Studio Habits of Mind; and TAB. These topics blend seamlessly when introduced in a carefully conceived art curriculum that uses thoughtful instruction.
